Belleek | Classic Windmill Ornament
Situated in Millisle, County Down, Ballycopeland Windmill is the only remaining functioning Windmill in Northern Ireland. With a typical stone tower, the Windmill was built around the 1780’s-90’s and has three storeys. Powered by the wind transmitted from its sails, there are three pairs of millstones found on the ground floor which were responsible for making wheatmeal, shelling and grinding grain into oatmeal. An important source of food until the First World War, the Windmill was restored back to working order in 1978 and now houses a visitor centre.
Designers at Belleek have created a beautiful ornament embossed with gold and a lucky shamrock on the reverse. The Woodfolk Ltd from County Fermanagh has lovingly produced the turning oak sails, adding a playful feature to this unique piece
